See what some of our satisfied clients have had to say.

These guys have a passion for delivering fine pieces of God's art called wood. They take care to make the pieces to your needs and kiln dried and then flattened to your specifications. I am a furniture carpenter and I know quality and these guys get it.

Words can’t express how impressed I am with these young men. Hard workers, great communication, very knowledgeable and quality products. I purchased 2 hand hewn beams from them for a project I am working on, and I was very pleased with the whole experience. Keep up the good work. You guys are a rare gem in today’s world. I hope to purchase from you again in the future.

The new black walnut mantle is a show-stopping focal point in our new community room. Your effort to get the installation perfect reflects in your milling, too. It was really hard selecting this perfect piece among all the inventory you have.

We purchased 97 beams for a house that we're building.  As an architect, it was very important that the beams met the quality that we required. We were very impressed with the service and quality that we received.  Bloom and Johnson delivered the beams on time as promised.  We would highly recommend Bloom and Johnson to anyone looking for quality custom-milled lumber.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of our clients' most frequent questions to help guide you through the process.

Are your products kiln dried?

Yes, all of our slabs and mantels are kiln dried. For more information on kiln drying please visit our services page and check the information provided under our kiln drying section.

Why should you kiln dry wood?

There are several reasons to kiln dry wood. When wood is freshly sawn it contains large amounts of moisture, which can lead to cracking and warping over time. Kiln drying makes the wood more stable and less susceptible to deformation. Moisture in wood also causes issues with finishes, leading to peeling and discoloration. Additionally, since wood can be a habitat for insects, kiln drying kills those insects and removes the risk of future damage.

What's the best way to find the perfect piece for my project?

The best way to find what you are looking for is to send an email or give us a call. We can set up an appointment to look at individual pieces and select the right one for your project.

How is your reclaimed material handled?

All material is run through a sanitation cycle in our kiln to eradicate insects. Each piece is hand-cleaned with an assortment of tools.

Where do you get your reclaimed material?

Our reclaimed material is salvaged from old Amish barns built in the Northeast. The wood is comprised mainly of various hardwoods, including White/Red Oak, Maple, Hickory, and Chestnut as well as less common species.

Do you have dimensional lumber?

Yes, we generally stock small quantities of hardwood lumber, cut softwood lumber to order, and can also cut custom sizes upon request.

How do you get logs?

We work with a number of local tree services in an effort to salvage urban logs. In addition to that, we work with local loggers and have equipment to salvage logs from residential properties.
